Melbourne Pathology, Australia’s oldest private pathology practice, is set to open its Victorian headquarters and state-of-the-art pathology and research hub at Melbourne’s Docklands as part of its strategic expansion.

Supported by the Victorian Government, this move marks a milestone in the state’s healthtech landscape, appealing to investors eyeing opportunities in healthcare innovation and diagnostics growth.
Melbourne Pathology has a long and proud history, serving the Victorian community for more than 100 years and we are delighted to commit to a project of this magnitude.
The new facility will become the Centre of Excellence for pathology in Victoria, and we are pleased to have the support of the Victorian Government.
The new laboratory will allow us to significantly increase our testing capacity and broaden the scope of tests we can provide locally.

A strategic move to docklands
Melbourne Pathology’s decision to relocate to Docklands highlights the appeal of the precinct as one of Australia’s fastest-growing business and innovation districts. Docklands offers unparalleled connectivity through its proximity to Melbourne’s central business district (CBD), major transport links, and Melbourne Airport.
The availability of a large, strategically located site – the former Costco development – was key to Melbourne Pathology’s decision. This new site, spanning over 10,000 square metres, will more than triple the company’s operational space.
Its central location in Docklands enables efficient logistics for servicing Melbourne’s hospitals and pathology collection centres while ensuring quick regional reach through advanced transportation options, such as dedicated drone delivery infrastructure for time-critical medical specimens.
Investing in next-generation pathology and healthcare
Melbourne Pathology’s new facility positions Victoria as a leader in delivering state-of-the-art pathology and diagnostics services. Designed to process an estimated 200,000 tests daily, the new headquarters will significantly expand pathology and diagnostic capabilities, accelerating medical testing services across the state. The new centre will also include advanced genomic testing.
