A new wind farm in the state’s south-west will soon be harnessing Victoria’s abundant wind resources to deliver reliable, long-term renewable energy to homes, businesses and industry. The project strengthens Victoria’s position as a prime destination for clean energy investment.
The 400-megawatt, Mt Fyans Wind Farm near Mortlake has recently been approved. It is the third largest wind farm approved by the Victorian Government in the past 10 years, highlighting Victoria’s strong pipeline of large-scale renewable energy developments and investment opportunities.
The wind farm will be made up of 81 turbines and set to create more than 100 jobs during construction, as well as 10 fulltime local jobs once the wind farm becomes operational. For the clean energy sector, the project highlights the depth of Victoria’s highly skilled regional workforce and ongoing opportunities found across the state.
Wind is the biggest contributor to renewable electricity generation in Victoria, with 21% of Victoria’s monthly electricity generation coming from wind farms in the first half of 2025. This growth underlines Victoria’s global competitiveness in wind energy and the scalability of its renewable infrastructure.
The project is in the South-West Renewable Energy Zone, one of six areas identified in the Victorian Transmission Plan as most suitable to host new renewable energy generation. The defined Renewable Energy Zones give investors clarity on ideal locations for new generation and transmission, helping to de-risk projects and accelerate development timelines.
Victoria’s strong pipeline of investment-ready renewable projects, supported by highly skilled local workforce and world-class infrastructure, further reinforces the state’s attractiveness for clean energy investment.
The state has met every renewable energy target it has set to date and is well on the way to meeting the next ones of 65 per cent renewable energy generation by 2030 and 95 per cent by 2035.
Delivering more renewable energy will provide a secure source of cheap renewable energy for homes, businesses and industry across the whole state and boost employment – 67,000 jobs will be required to deliver our energy transition by 2040 – a 60 percent increase from today.
For global investors, this represents significant opportunities across development, technology, workforce training, and supply chain integration.
