A multi-billion-dollar US tech company has chosen Melbourne to launch its entry into the Australian market, further cementing Melbourne’s position as Australia’s leading tech city.
The largest on-demand food platform for door-to-door delivery in the U.S., DoorDash, is expanding into the Australian market and has established their head office in Melbourne, creating around 50 direct jobs.
DoorDash is establishing partnerships with local restaurants and focuses on supporting and streamlining their business operations to empower businesses thrive in the online economy. The company will also create flexible contracting opportunities for delivery drivers.

The San Francisco-based company, recently valued at US$12.6 billion, is the latest in a long line of big tech names, such as Alibaba, Zendesk, Square and Slack, to choose Victoria for their regional headquarters.
Victoria’s tech sector employs more than 137,900 people across more than 19,300 businesses, generating $36.6 billion in annual revenue.
The State also produces the highest number of graduates in information technology, engineering and related technologies in Australia, and is home to approximately 30 per cent of Australia’s engineers.
DoorDash enters into Australia’s booming online food delivery service industry, which has surged from a $20 million industry to over $200 million in the past five years, according to market analyst IBISWorld.
