An investment from a global leader in defence electronics and technology is set to further boost Victoria’s thriving defence and technology sectors.

Elbit Systems of Australia has announced plans to set up a Centre of Excellence for Human and Machine Teaming in Victoria – only its second outside Israel - to drive the research, development and commercialisation of defence and non-defence technologies.

Through the Centre the company will work with Victorian universities and research organisations to foster collaboration within the innovation ecosystem.

It will also partner with startups and SMEs to boost the commercialisation success of new discoveries in the fields of autonomous systems, machine vision, robotics, industrial internet of things networks, and augmented and virtual reality.

The investment by Elbit will boost capability for the Victorian university and research sectors and increase collaboration with the defence and non-defence industry, particularly in the process and culture of commercialising intellectual property.

It will also further position Victoria as a destination for world class R&D and deep technology commercialisation.

Elbit is the largest defence contractor in Israel and 28th largest in the world, employing approximately 16,000 staff worldwide.

The company is a global specialist in commercialising deep technology R&D in defence and non-defence products.
