Walkinshaw Group, Australia’s largest automotive re-manufacturing company, has officially opened its new $114 million headquarters and expanded manufacturing facility in Dandenong South, Victoria.
The investment marks a major boost to Victoria’s advanced manufacturing capability and creates 155 new jobs across production, engineering and administration.
The 100,000-square-metre site – equivalent in size to five Melbourne Cricket Grounds – consolidates operations from three existing facilities and has the capacity to scale up to 1,500 employees. The consolidation allows Walkinshaw to streamline operations, expand output and accelerate growth.
The new site will support production of more than 10,000 vehicles per year for the Australian market, including left-hand-drive to right-hand-drive conversions and vehicle enhancements for global brands such as General Motors, Toyota, Volkswagen and Isuzu.
Featuring Australia’s most advanced automotive engineering centre, the site includes more than four production lines and a renewable solar energy system to future proof operations.
Walkinshaw chose Melbourne’s south-east due to its established manufacturing base, access to skilled engineering and technical talent, proximity to existing workforce and supply chain, and excellent transport and logistics connectivity - enabling the company to scale without disruption.
Invest Victoria’s supported Walkinshaw in securing the site and investing in new engineering capability critical to the company’s expansion. It also connected the company with defence and federal industry contacts, facilitated engagement with the Office of Defence Industry Support and supported its submission on the New Vehicle Efficiency Standard (NVES).
Walkinshaw’s investment signals strong confidence in Victoria’s advanced manufacturing ecosystem and the continued demand for high-value automotive engineering. It positions the company – and the state – for further growth in global markets.
“We truly believe in the strength of Australian manufacturing and engineering, especially here in Victoria, and this should show everyone how committed we are for the long term.”
Ryan Walkinshaw
Walkinshaw Group CEO
The project strengthens Victoria’s position as a destination for high-tech manufacturing investment, where companies can scale, innovate and access world-class talent.
