JD Logistics has chosen Victoria as a key logistics hub in its Australian expansion, establishing a fulfilment centre in the Melbourne suburb of Derrimut to better clients across high-growth industries.
A subsidiary of Chinese e-commerce giant JD.com, JD Logistics is a global leader in intelligent supply chain solutions, bringing deep expertise in logistics technology, warehouse automation, and integrated systems. Since launching its national network in 2007, the company has built one of China’s most advanced supply chain systems and was listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in 2021.
The Derrimut facility is a major addition to JD Logistics’ expanding Australian network. Featuring advanced robotics and fully automated systems, the site functions as a key hub for sorting and dispatching goods to clients in retail, agrifood, clean energy, and consumer electronics—enhancing both scalability and efficiency. JD Logistics is internationally recognised for its pioneering work in autonomous delivery vehicles and robotics-enabled warehouses.
Victoria was chosen for its strategic advantages: a strong, diverse economy; leading infrastructure; policy stability; and its role as Australia’s premier distribution and logistics hub. The state's connectivity and dynamic business environment offer a solid foundation for JD’s long-term growth strategy in the region.
We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to Invest Victoria for their outstanding support. Their professional guidance and deep understanding of Victoria’s logistics landscape played a critical role in helping establish a solid presence in the region, said Ethan Ju, Head of JD Logistics Australia
JD Logistics initially identified brand awareness and site optimisation as key challenges. With support from Invest Victoria, the company secured a location that balances scale, accessibility, and proximity to clients.
Invest Victoria’s China office first engaged with JD Logistics in 2021, offering tailored market insights, trade data, and site visit coordination. Despite pandemic-related delays, engagement resumed in 2023, with further support for property options, cost analysis, and local industry connections. This collaboration helped accelerate JD’s market entry, strengthen operational readiness, and build a more resilient supply chain footprint.
The opening of the Derrimut facility represents a significant milestone in JD Logistics’ global strategy. A second warehouse is already planned to meet rising demand, further reinforcing Victoria’s position at the centre of next-generation logistics and supply chain innovation.
