Prof Lloyd Hollenberg

R&D CHAMPIONS

Lloyd HollenbergProfessor Lloyd Hollenberg
Deputy Director, Centre of Excellence for Quantum Computation and Communication Technology, Thomas Baker Chair, Laureate Professor and Director of the IBM Quantum Hub at the University of Melbourne

Professor Hollenberg is leading the development of quantum computer and sensing technology in Australia and he is an integral part of an international effort to understand and apply these technologies to real-world problems.

He has created the physical basis for a full-scale silicon quantum computer, drawing on his deep understanding of the physics involved.

His work on diamond-based systems for quantum sensing has focussed on their use in nano and biological applications.

With the recent emergence of quantum computers sparking a global race in quantum software development, Professor Hollenberg has been a major driver of the engagement of researchers and end-users, leading the establishment of the IBM Quantum Hub and the University of Melbourne.

Prof Hollenberg has also played a major leadership role in the Centre for Quantum Computation and Communications Technology, including mentorship of many students and post-doctoral fellows, service to the discipline, and enthusiastic promotion of physics to the public.

Prof Hollenberg has published more than 250 papers in refereed journals, including prestigious journals such as Science, Nature, Nature Physics, Nature Nanotechnology, Nature Materials and Physical Review Letters.
