After a successful launch, DiDi Australia establishes its ANZ headquarters in Melbourne

The establishment of DiDi’s Australian and New Zealand headquarters in Melbourne followed a successful launch of its ridesharing services in Melbourne.

The headquarters will provide a base for its continued expansion across the region as the company looks to roll out its ridesharing services to major Australian and New Zealand cities. The headquarters will also facilitate the introduction of its smart transportation and artificial intelligence technologies to the region via collaboration with local industry partners.

DiDi approached Invest Victoria to help with its market entry strategy.  It wanted to better understand the:

  • local regulatory and licensing requirements for ridesharing services;
  • local government’s attitudes towards ridesharing services; and
  • opportunities for future expansion in smart transportation and artificial intelligence.

Invest Victoria provided strategic advice to help DiDi gain a closer understanding of the operating conditions for ridesharing in the Australian market.

To aid DiDi’s understanding of local regulatory and licensing requirements for ridesharing services Invest Victoria’s investment specialist:

  • Hosted a number of site visits with local industry partners in Melbourne;
  • Introduced DiDi executives to Commercial Passenger Vehicles Victoria and the Department of Transport;
  • Assisted DiDi with fast-tracking its Booking Service Provider (BSP) license application to enable DiDi to operate its ridesharing services in Victoria; and
  • Facilitated ministerial meetings for DiDi with the Minister for Transport and the Minister for Trade and Investment; and
