Social networks are examples of the way ICT is fundamental to our entrepreneurial communities as it is to the success and growth of our economy. The Government seeks to nurture and attract new Social Networks related investment to the state through a range of current activities.
Around 69 per cent of Australians use social media with 95 per cent of social media users on Facebook.1 Three in ten Australians use social media for commercial purposes2, to research products and services that they want to purchase. Mobile devices are now the predominant means of accessing social media. Despite consumer usage of social media becoming mainstream, businesses are still lagging behind – 69 per cent of online Australians use social media but only 36 per cent of small businesses and 48 per cent of medium-sized businesses have a social media presence.3 Social media offers significant opportunities for businesses to connect with people.
