Stronger air links are set to boost trade, investment and logistics opportunities between China and Victoria, as Hong Kong Airlines partners with Melbourne Airport to launch three direct flights a week to Melbourne from December.

This new service will add an extra 93,600 seats annually, providing faster and more reliable access for Chinese businesses to connect with Melbourne. It will also support streamlined freight and business travel routes into Australia.

With onward connections to more than 30 destinations across Asia and North America, including Tokyo and Vancouver, the service strengthens Victoria’s role as a regional business and logistics hub.

Hong Kong is also a growing visitor market for Victoria. In the year ending March 2025, 88,000 visitors from Hong Kong spent a total of $241 million in Victoria. That figure is projected to grow 67% to 148,300 visitors by 2029, underscoring the importance of deeper connectivity.

For exporters and global businesses, increased air freight capacity means faster delivery times, improved supply chain efficiency, and greater reach into high-value Asian and Australian markets. The new flights are set to strengthen business and cultural ties and open up fresh opportunities for investment, trade and commercial partnerships.

This new service will not only provide passengers a competitive and high-quality travel option but will also cater to the diverse needs of business and leisure travellers, further deepening the trade, cultural, and tourism ties between Hong Kong and Melbourne.

The deal is the latest agreement funded through the Victorian Government’s $7 million Visit Victoria Industry Partnerships Program (VVIPP), an initiative from the Economic Growth Statement which sees industry partners match government investment dollar-for-dollar.

With enhanced connectivity, increased freight capacity, and strong government backing, Victoria continues to position itself as a gateway to Asia-Pacific markets — and a premier destination for global business growth.
