Victoria has considerable strengths in banking, managing around 35 per cent of the nation's banking assets. Australia has 72 licensed banks of which 10 are headquartered in Victoria and a further 31 have offices in Victoria. Two of Australia's four largest banks, the National Australia Bank (NAB) and the Australia and New Zealand Banking Group (ANZ), are headquartered in Melbourne. One of Australia's fastest growing regional banks, the Bendigo and Adelaide Bank is located in Bendigo, approximately 150 km north west of Melbourne. Melbourne is also the home of a number of mutual banks including ME Bank.
A number of international banks operate out of Melbourne with two of the world's largest banks - the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China and China Construction Bank having established representation in Melbourne over the past three years.
