Dear Investor
October has seen Australia put on a global pedestal for continuing to defy the GFC and remaining one of the best places to invest and live in the world. The International Monetary Fund found Australia to be the only advanced economy set to record positive growth in 2009. Australia was also ranked second in the world for: best financial centre; best retirement income system; and by the United Nations for quality of life, as well as sixth in the world for R&D jobs.
This trend has been particularly evident with the news that Australia's largest superannuation funds – half of which are based in Melbourne - have outperformed their global peers, recording the highest asset growth in the world over the last five years.
Victoria has been flaunting its investment and industry strengths at the All-Energy Australia Expo and the new Melbourne Australia Pavilion in Silicon Valley, as well as planning a strong presence at next year’s Shanghai World Expo.
Over the last month there have been many exciting global partnerships developed in ICT, stem cell research and biotechnology, which will only be enhanced by a South East Melbourne Innovation Precinct, Victoria’s leadership in climate change adaptation and the appointment of new Trade Commissioners to boost international investment and trade.
