In a boost for Australia’s video game capital, Colombian leading video game development studio Cocodrilo Dog has announced it will establish its Australian HQ in Melbourne.

As part of its investment, the company will draw on the local highly skilled talent and create up to 20 jobs in development, engineering, graphic design and sales.

Founded in 2011 in Bogotá, Cocodrilo Dog specialises in rhythm-based video games, with its signature products including Audio Ninja, Apple Store’s Best of 2013 runner-up; award-winning Beat Boy; and Moana: Rhythm Run, the official videogame of Disney’s film Moana.

Cocodrilo Dog’s video games have also been used by hundreds of schools as music learning tools.

The company’s founders Marge Torres and Juan Pablo Reyes have been recognised for leading the video game scene in Latin America, including by the Colombian Government, the MIT Technology Review and CNN.

Invest Victoria assisted Cocodrilo Dog with its entry to Melbourne, helping the company to develop its expansion plan, providing information on matters such as talent availability and office space, and support with visas.

Co-founder and CEO Marge Torres said

“the Victorian Government’s support was instrumental to Cocodrilo Dog’s decision to set up shop in Melbourne. We are very excited to make this dream real and we look forward to becoming part of Melbourne vibrant video games scene”.

The investment by Cocodrilo Dog is a boost to Victoria’s renowned digital games industry. The State is home to more than half of Australia’s digital games companies which includes over 130 games studios.

It also has many additional services designed to strengthen and complement the industry, including animation, music development, data analysis, publishing, marketing and PR.

Melbourne is also home to the Game Developers' Association of Australia (GDAA) and The Arcade, Australia's only not-for-profit collaborative co-working space specifically for the digital games industry.
