Victoria will host seven world-class events between now and Christmas, underlining the state's status as the sporting capital of Australia.

The Socceroos take on 60 year rivals, Japan in a World Cup qualifier at Etihad Stadium, the Melbourne Cup Carnival summons a global audience, the Fast5 Netball World Series will showcase the best in the business and the World Cup of Golf brings to Victoria the best players in the world.

Add the pace of the Phillip Island MotoGP, the precision of the International Festival of Hockey and the seafaring skills at the Sailing World Cup-Melbourne and its game on for sports fans.

  • Michelin® Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix 2016, Phillip Island, 21-23 October, 2016 - For the first time, two F/A-18A Classic Hornets from the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) will showcase speed and precision as they take to the skies.  Tickets at motogp.com.au.
  • Melbourne Cup Carnival, Melbourne, until 29 October - 5 November, 2106 - Racing, entertainment, fashion, culture, food and wine combine to showcase the world's most liveable city. Tickets through Ticketek.
  • Fast5 Netball World Series, Hisense Arena, Melbourne, 29-30 October, 2016 - the first opportunity to witness netball's newest format -  five players a side, shorter quarters, power plays and super shot making.
  • World Cup of Golf, Kingston Heath Golf Club, Melbourne, 23-27 November 2016 - First played in 1953, the tournament is one of the oldest and most prestigious global golf team event while Kingston Heath is one of Australia's best golf courses, consistently ranked among the top 50 courses in the world.  Jason Day and Adam Scott headline for Australia.   • International Festival of Hockey, Melbourne & Bendigo, 23-30 November, 2016 – See the Kookaburras and Hockeyroos take on some of their biggest international rivals including India, Malaysia and New Zealand at the State Netball Hockey Centre in Melbourne and in Bendigo at the Bendigo Hockey Complex.   • Sailing World Cup-Melbourne, St Kilda, 4-11 December, 2016 - Melbourne is the state's premier sailing destination for Olympic class yachts. Up to 10,000 people will flock to Port Phillip Bay to compete and support this spectacular event.
