Potato crisp manufacturer Tyrrells has chosen Victoria as its base to expand into the Australian and Asia Pacific markets.

The English food manufacturing company has invested in Yarra Valley Snack Foods based in Melbourne's eastern suburbs, which also produces its own popular line of snacks. Yarra Valley Snack Foods started in 1988 and became certified organic in 2006.

This investment is the first Tyrrells manufacturing base outside of the UK and the acquisition provides the opportunity to accelerate the growth of the Tyrrells brand in the local market.

The company's decision is a strong endorsement of Victoria's credentials as a clean, green and safe manufacturer, and exporter of premium quality food and beverages.  The state also has a stable AAA rated economy.

The State Government of Victoria has worked closely with Tyrrells to assist in its investment in Yarra Valley Snack Foods, which also participated in the 2015 Food and Beverage Trade Week inbound trade mission.

Tyrrells was founded in 2002 and has grown to become one of the UK's favourite snack food brands, producing crisps, popcorn, rice crackers and tortillas using high quality, locally sourced ingredients.

The State Government of Victoria is supporting the Food and Fibre sector as a part of its Future Industries Fund to stimulate economic growth and to continue to foster investment into the future.

Victoria is Australia's largest exporter of food and fibre products, with exports worth A$12 billion in 2014-15 and employing more than 190,000 Victorians in the sector across the state.
