More than 4000 delegates will converge on Victoria when the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre hosts the 2019 World Congress of Nephrology.
The Congress will contribute A$23 million to Victoria's economy and put Melbourne on an international medical global stage.
Nephrology deals with the study of the kidneys and associated diseases. The world's leading medical minds will share their research in Melbourne and evaluate emerging technologies across the globe.
The City of Melbourne and Kidney Health Australia will deliver an active kidney health public screening and awareness campaign during the congress.
The Congress is an opportunity for delegates to experience the best that Victoria has to offer, which is also good for the state because business delegates spend up to six times as much as holiday makers.
Business events contribute nearly A$10 billion to the Victorian economy each year which is why the Second Stage of the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, project is proceeding.
The project will add thousands of square metres of new exhibition space and attract an additional 74,000 international visitors annually which will stimulate business in Victoria's bars, restaurants and hotels.
