Victoria’s relationship with South East Asia
|
Victoria has a strong relationship with South East Asia which includes a history of mutual business participation. The Victorian Government maintains a strong presence in South East Asia, with a Victorian Government Business Office located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This office has the dual aim of both developing and maintaining relationships with potential and current South East Asian investors and facilitating Victorian exports into South East Asia. The Victorian Government also has a tourism office based in Singapore.
A Free Trade Agreement was signed between the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and Australia and New Zealand in 2009. Further, Victoria and Singapore have signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) agreements on Design and Culture.
Victoria continues to enjoy a strong relationship with South East Asian countries, including Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam. The close proximity of Victoria to these nations makes for an ideal partnership on trade and investment, whilst cultural ties continue to strengthen.

There are several prominent South East Asian companies currently operating in Victoria across a wide range of sectors.
Examples include Information and Communication Technology (ICT) companies Singtel and Proton, and food and beverage companies, Safcol and QAF Limited.
Victoria's airline services sector has also seen recent investment from both Air Asia X and Tiger Airways.
