Victoria’s relationship with Japan

Victoria has a strong relationship with Japan which includes a history of mutual business participation. Japan is Victoria’s third largest trading partner and there are approximately 140 Japanese companies currently operating in Victoria.

The Victorian Government is committed to maintaining our strong relationship with Japan, with a presence through our Victorian Government Business Office in Tokyo. This office has the dual aim of both developing and maintaining relationships with potential and current Japanese investors and facilitating exports into Japan.

Melbourne and Osaka are sister cities, whilst Victoria and Aichi prefecture are sister states. The relationship between Victoria and Aichi celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2010. The alliance continues to develop, with two of Victoria’s leading universities, RMIT and Monash, having broad MOUs and exchange programs with Aichi-based Universities. There is also is an active school exchange program between Aichi and Victorian high schools.

The Victorian Government looks forward to continuing to foster a mutually beneficial relationship with the Japanese business community.
