Victoria’s relationship with India

Victoria has a strong relationship with India which includes a history of mutual business participation. The Victorian Government Business Office in Bangalore was first opened in 2005 and continues to play a vital role in the facilitation of trade and investment.

Australia and India have signed several Memorandum of Understanding agreements that span a range of business areas, and in particular the State of Victoria and the State of Karnataka signed an Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) agreement covering trade and investment in 2005.

There are currently several Australia companies who are active in India including Woolworths, Linfox, ANZ, BHP and Bluescope. Victoria also benefits from a strong presence of Indian students studying in Melbourne.

The expanded two-year India Trade Engagement Program is part of an overall long-term Victorian Government plan to strengthen trade, investment, cultural and personal links with India - one of the world’s largest and fastest growing economies.

The Victorian Government’s expanded Trade Engagement Program, which includes a Super Trade Mission in 2011, is designed to showcase Victorian business capabilities in key industry sectors and strengthen trade and investment links with India through sustained engagement.

The Victorian Government looks forward to continuing to foster a mutually beneficial relationship with India with the Victorian Premier recently announcing a new Victorian Government Business Office will be established in Mumbai.
