Unilever invests $58M in new Victorian plant

26 March 2008

Unilever Australasia has invested $58 million in a new dry foods manufacturing plant in the Goulburn Valley region of northern Victoria, creating 134 new full-time jobs over the next five years.

The Tatura-based plant will create 96 jobs in its first year, heralding the start of a new era for the Goulburn Valley’s food industry.

It is estimated the new plant will produce an estimated $2 billion in sales in the first five years of joint operations.

Relocating the dry foods manufacturing component to Tatura also means Unilever will be able to achieve greater economies of scale and scope, enabling the company to position the plant for growth locally and in the Asia Pacific region.

Unilever is the first company to receive assistance under a $10 million Victorian Government program to attract new industry and help existing industry expand in regional Victoria.

The Regional Industry Investment Program aims to secure, strengthen and diversify the regional industry base in areas suffering the longer term impact of drought, frost and bushfire.

The program will enable industries and businesses in these areas to improve their competitive capacity through investment directed at broadening business opportunities and upgrading skills and technology.
