Victorian Commissioner for South-East Asia, Tim Dillon and Minister Jacinta Allan in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

The new Victorian Government Business Office (VGBO) in Kuala Lumpur is the first to open in the South-East Asia region.

The Malaysian VGBO adds to Victoria’s network of twelve offices now located in South-East Asia, Europe, Middle East, India, China, Japan, and North America.

Skills and Workforce Participation Minister Jacinta Allan opened the new VGBO and said the new office will allow Victorian businesses to leverage opportunities across South-East Asia to help drive exports and build international partnerships.

“We are standing up for Victorian jobs by investing in projects such as VGBOs across the world,” Ms Allan said.

“Australia, and in particularly Victoria, has longstanding cultural ties with Malaysia, of the 92,000 Malaysian-born Australian residents, Victoria is home to more than 30,000.

Ms Allan said “Victoria and Malaysia both have interests in advanced manufacturing industries - particularly automotive and aerospace.” She also highlighted agriculture and information technology as significant industries.

“By any measure there are huge opportunities for us to work together and further our business relationship,” she said.
