Mitsui adds boost to Victorian wind project

6 June 2008

The development rights for the Bald Hills Wind Farm have been acquired by Mitsui & Co (Australia) representing a significant boost to the wind farm project to be located near Wonthaggi, East of Melbourne.

The 52 turbine project will have a capacity of 104 MW and represents a $200 million investment into the Wonthaggi region. Mitsui expect the wind farm to be operational by 2011.

Mitsui has acquired 100 per cent of the shares in the Bald Hills Wind Farm from Wind Power, a Melbourne based wind farm developer. Wind Power will continue its involvement with the project through a development agreement with Mitsui.

In a separate wind power development the Victorian Government has approved a $300 million wind farm project near Port Fairy, to the West of Melbourne.

The Ryan Corner project comprises 68 wind turbines to be built on approximately 3600 hectares, 12km northwest of Port Fairy.

The Moyne Shire Council with its combination of wind and open space has proven to be a real hot spot for wind development with nine projects at various stages of development
